PTO Roles & Responsibilities

  Executive Board

President - Preside at all meetings of the PTO and of the Executive Board; shall be ex-officio member of all committees except the nomination committee; shall appoint special committee chairpersons; shall coordinate the work of Board members and committees in order that the objectives stated herein may be promoted; and shall perform such other duties as may be prescribed in this Constitution or assigned to the President by the PTO Executive Board. The President shall also serve on the SDMC (Shared Decision Making Council).

 

Vice - President - Act as an aide to the President; shall perform the duties of the President in the absence or the inability of that member to serve; and shall coordinate the PTO membership drive.

 

Treasurer Has custody of, and be responsible for all funds of the PTO. The Treasurer will deposit such funds in the PTO official depositories approved by the Board and will pay out money as directed by the Board. The Treasurer shall make a statement of account available at Board meetings, at general meetings, and at other times when requested by the Board. The Treasure's books shall be audited at the end of the term and at other times when directed by the Board.

 

Secretary - Prepare the minutes of all meetings of the PTO and the Board; shall present the minutes of each meeting at or prior to the next meeting; shall send approved minutes to the webmaster for posting on the PTO information website; and shall preserve copies of meeting minutes, both hard copies and electronic, and pass to his/her successor.
 
Fundraising - Act as an aide to the President; shall perform the duties of the President in the absence or the inability of the President of Vice President to serve; and shall coordinate all fundraising.
 
VIPS (Volunteer) Coordinator - Administer the volunteer program at the school; shall serve as liaison for HISD’s Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) program; shall develop and implement strategies for encouraging and rewarding volunteerism; and shall maintain a database of volunteers and their talents.
 
Parliamentarian - Be familiar with parliamentary procedure as presented in Roberts Rules of Order (Newly Revised) and shall advise the presiding officer on questions of parliamentary law and matters of procedure. The Parliamentarian shall keep a copy of the Westside High School PTO Constitution/By-Laws and amendments and shall present copies of these to the newly elected Board members. Keep meetings focused on agenda.
 
 

PTO Committees

Alumni Association

Assists with fundraising for the Alumni Association PTO Scholarship and Alumni Breakfast.

College Center

Assists with set up and clean up of College Night.

First Day Packets

Compiles items for the information packets distributed to students on the first day of school.

Homecoming Dance 

Assists with ticket sales, dance set up/clean up, and chaperoning the Homecoming Dance. Assists with the parade, house decorations, and other activities for Homecoming Week.

Senior Class Activities

Assists with senior class activity planning, including Prom and senior picnic.

Safety Committee 

Consults with the Shared Decision Making Committee (SDMC) PTO representative about Westside High School safety updates.

Staff Appreciation

Assists with set up, clean up, and food service at staff appreciation events.

Welcome & Recruiting 

Assists the school with student orientations, laptop deployment, uniform sales, and the

Back to School Bash.
